The relation between speech recognition in noise and the speech-evoked brainstem response in normal-hearing and hearing-impaired individuals
Little is known about the way speech in noise is processed along the auditory pathway. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relation between listening in noise using the R-Space system and the neurophysiologic response of the speech-evoked auditory brainstem when recorded in quiet and noise in adult participants with mild to moderate hearing loss and normal hearing.
متن کامل[Bone conduction auditory brainstem responses in normal hearing individuals].
BACKGROUND bone conduction auditory brainstem responses (ABR) in normal hearing individuals. AIM to evaluate the clinical applicability of bone conduction ABR, characterizing normality and determining an assessment protocol. METHOD participants of this study were 22 individuals with normal hearing (20dB NA), with ages between 20 and 30 years, 14 female and 8 male. All individuals were asses...
متن کاملAbnormal Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) Findings in a Near-Normal Hearing Child with Noonan Syndrome
Introduction: Noonan syndrome (NS) is a heterogeneous genetic disease that affects many parts of the body. It was named after Dr. Jacqueline Anne Noonan, a paediatric cardiologist.Case Report: We report audiological tests and auditory brainstem response (ABR) findings in a 5-year old Malay boy with NS. Despite showing the marked signs of NS, the child could only produce a few meaningful words. ...
متن کاملBrainstem Encoding of Aided Speech in Hearing Aid Users with Cochlear Dead Region(s)
INTRODUCTION Neural encoding of speech begins with the analysis of the signal as a whole broken down into its sinusoidal components in the cochlea, which has to be conserved up to the higher auditory centers. Some of these components target the dead regions of the cochlea causing little or no excitation. Measuring aided speech-evoked auditory brainstem response elicited by speech stimuli with d...
متن کاملSpeech Intelligibility of Cochlear-Implanted and Normal-Hearing Children
Introduction: Speech intelligibility, the ability to be understood verbally by listeners, is the gold standard for assessing the effectiveness of cochlear implantation. Thus, the goal of this study was to compare the speech intelligibility between normal-hearing and cochlear-implanted children using the Persian intelligibility test. Materials and Methods: Twenty-six cochlear-implanted childre...
